TIP No. 71

One of the most commonly ignored bedroom issues in modern flats and apartments is sleeping directly beneath a structural beam. Many people dismiss it as a simple architectural feature, but over years of observation, I have seen that some individuals sleeping under heavy beams often report mental heaviness, disturbed sleep, strange irritability, overthinking, pressure in relationships, or a feeling of never fully relaxing. In traditional Vastu understanding, anything visually “cutting” across the body during sleep can subconsciously disturb the mind’s ability to settle deeply. Even from a practical design perspective, a heavy beam directly above the bed creates a subtle feeling of pressure over the sleeping zone. The simplest correction is always to shift the bed slightly away from the beam if possible. If the structure cannot be changed, keep the bedroom light, clean, and uncluttered. Soft lighting, calm colours, proper ventilation, and balancing remedies like bamboo flutes are traditionally used to reduce the psychological and energetic heaviness created by the beam. Small bedroom corrections often create bigger emotional changes than people expect.
